That’s fantastic, Charles! Great character and composition. Tiny little crit: the dragon looks a bit blurry (i.e. digital) compared to the sharply focused pencil. But wow, what a great piece. Superb background texture and color too.
Thanks, Ella! Yeah, I intentionally left those edges soft, but looking back at it, I think you’re right that I could have sharpened it up a bit more. Thanks for the suggestion! :)
I agree about the blurryness (sp?). He looks more out of focus to a layman like me than soft. But I love him! He’d fit nicely in my pocket with room to spare, and looks like he needs a little comforting. I wish he was real!
Just to go public with the request, I’m commissioning a variation on this little guy to be printed on canvas and be displayed in my office! As an editor, I think having my own little pencil-dragon would be quite appropriate. I will encourage you to post the variation when it’s done, so that people can see what tweaks I wanted to suggest on your awesome, awesome concept. It’s one of my all-time favorite pieces of yours!
